Homemade Egg Rolls

by GettingFreedom on August 29, 2012

It’s no secret that we love Asian flavors and dishes.  One of our many weaknesses is egg rolls.  Purchasing them at the Chinese Restaurant {or from the grocery store} will quickly break the food budget.

So, why not make your own? :)

Homemade Egg Rolls

Yield: 24 Egg Rolls

Homemade Egg Rolls

Create your own homemade egg rolls at home for about 40¢ a piece.

Ingredients

  • 1 Package Egg Roll Wrappers
  • Pre-bagged Coleslaw Mix (This frequently goes on sale--or you could chop your own cabbage/carrots)
  • 1# each Ground Pork and Ground Beef
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 can water chestnuts {chopped}
  • ¼ c. oyster sauce
  • ½ c soy sauce
  • Dash of each pepper and garlic salt.

Instructions

  1. Cook your ground beef and pork with the chopped onion, and drain.
  2. In a medium sized bowl combine bag of coleslaw, soy sauce, oyster sauce, garlic salt/pepper and water chestnuts.
  3. Add in the browned meat mixture.
  4. Let cool.
  5. Turn the egg roll wrappers to look like a diamond. Put about 3 tbsp filling and fold up the corner closest to you to just on top of the filing.
  6. Take the 2 sides and bring them in.
  7. Roll and seal the end with water.
  8. You can either bake at 425° for about 18-20 minutes or fry them in oil until golden brown.

Y-U-M-M-Y!! It’s a lot cheaper than eating out and probably healthier too.

Fix up some Cashew Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken or other favorite Chinese/Asian Dish and you’ve got a great alternative to take out!  Definitely cheaper than dining out!

Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream

July 19, 2012

While technically this Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream recipe should probably be called Strawberry Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt, to me if it’s dairy and it’s frozen–it’s ice cream!  Period. I created this cheesecake ice cream as part of a virtual barbecue recipe contest.  Most people wouldn’t think of taking ice cream to a potluck, but this one is […]

Meatless meals are a great way to shave a few dollars off of your grocery bill. Cheesy Ham and Rice Casserole

August 9, 2010

Tonight for dinner I had fully planned on making one of our family favorites, Cashew Chicken.  The rice was cooking so I could make up a quick batch of Fried Rice, when it hit me.  I think we ran out of Soy Sauce months ago.  Who runs out of Soy Sauce and forgets to replace […]

Chocolate Cherry Pound Cake

July 26, 2010

On a recent trip to my favorite grocery store, Aldi, I found cherries for .98/lb!  My daughter absolutely loves cherries, but we rarely buy them because of their price.  This was my opportunity to stock up, so I bought 4 pounds worth.  Apparently it was a week for good fruit sales, because I ended up […]
