Menu Plan: Week of Sept.13th-Sept.19th

by GettingFreedom on September 11, 2009

Today marks the remembrance of a life changing moment in my family’s life. Today, September 13th, marks the 6th anniversary of my father’s very unexpected passing. While many good things have come from it, it feels no better today than it did 6 years ago. I consistently fight back tears, many of them joyful, because he was a humorous, loving man. However, my heart still aches that my children will never know him. But we are making sure that they know him.

In any event, today we (our church family) are celebrating the kick off of the Fall Season. If I had to pick a favorite season, it would be fall. It screams soups, comfort foods, beautiful colors and sweaters, which equals love in my book. ;)

I’m going to try a different menu plan format, and see how it works. I might end up going back to the old one.

  • Breakfast: Bacon and Egg Sanwiches Cereal. Had to leave earlier than expected to get extra supplies for the fall kickoff.
  • Lunch: Fall Kickoff at church. Huge BBQ planned; bringing Caramel Apple Trifle for dessert.
  • Dinner: Snacks. After a big lunch like that, there is no reason for a full-on dinner!

  • Breakfast: Bacon/Egg Sandwiches.
  • Dinner: Chicken/Black Bean Quesadillas. ($3) Salad. (.50)($3.50)(8 servings=.44/ea)

  • Breakfast: Steel Cut Oats w/bananas
  • Dinner: Chilli. ($2.00) HM French Bread. (.40)($2.40)(10 servings=.24/ea)

  • Breakfast: Smoothies.
  • Dinner: Pizza Night! This time we’re going with Pizza Casserole. ($2.50) Salad. (.50) Dessert Pizza. ($1-ish)($4)(8 servings=.50)

  • Breakfast: Cinnamon Rolls.
  • Lunch: Soccer Games–packed lunch.
  • Dinner: Leftovers. (No cost)

Snacks for the week:

Total cost of dinners: $20.90 Average Price per serving= .50/ea

Thanks a ton to Lynn, Amy, and BlessedwithGrace for tweeting me your meal ideas a few weeks back. I’ve ended up with a really tasty week! :)

My dad passed away unexpectedly almost 3 years ago and for some reason I've been doing another layer of grieving lately. It comes up when it comes up and I just have to work through it. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I love your menu plan for this week. :)

This is the first time I have visited your site and I'm very excited. We, too, are in a journey to eliminate our debt and I love Dave Ramsey! I was touched by your post today. I know how you feel…I lost my father 6 years ago last Wednesday. I don't think it gets easier, but I think we learn how to remember more than just the loss. Praying for you…

Thank you for sharing inspirations for both big and small aspects of life. I'll be trying the pumpkin oatmeal soon I think…

And grace to you as you remember your loss.

love how you post the $ the meal makes. If I could make a weeks worth of meals on $20.00, I'd be well on my way to working my way out of debt. keep up the great work.

Sending hugs and prayers your way.

The caramel apple trifle sounds delish! Great looking menu!
