Clark Howard: Living Large for the Long Haul Book Review {and Giveaway!}

by GettingFreedom on August 6, 2013

I was recently asked if I would be willing to look over Clark Howard’s new book Living Large for the Long Haul.

Real stories from real people really resonates with me.  And that’s exactly what this book has to offer.  Living Large for the Long Haul is compiled from real stories from Americans who saved, lost and were able to save again.

The book is laid out so that it covers a topic with consumer stories and how they overcame the problems that they were faced with.  Each section or topic ends with sound financial advice.

The topics range from Credit, Homes and Real Estate, Cars, Retirement, Investing, Living Below Your Means, Entrepreneurship, Family, and more.

The story of Joyce and Don, who killed $40,000 of debt in 24 months, sounded eerily familiar to my own story.  They found themselves knee deep in consumer debt and still charging normal everyday expenses on their credit cards.  The amount they were spending every month to keep up with minimum payments was nothing compared to what was going to their principal.  In the end they ended up using professional credit counseling services to help them to pay down their debt–and in the process they were able to raise their credit scores.

Clark Howard’s advice is top notch, in my humble opinion.  He puts it just as it is, without sugar coating or get-rich schemes.  Living Large for the Long Haul is full of inspiring stories which include tips for anyone in any financial situation.  You never know–your financial situation can change with a drop of a hat, especially in these shaky economic times.
