How to Make Your Own Pen Organizer

by GettingFreedom on March 3, 2011

Even in this computer age, I’m still a pen and paper gal.  I’ve tried to move all of my budgeting papers online, but I can’t.  I still write out a to-do list in my home management binder, and I’ve come to terms that I’ll never be able to get rid of my trusty blue pens!

My husband has a sincere love for all things Sharpie, and anything with a lead point.  The children? Well, anything with which to make color!

Do you see the problem?  Pens, pencils, markers GALORE!  The store bought pen/pencil organizers were just never big enough.  My pens alone would fill them up.  One day while I was fixing to throw a perfectly good container away (which is a huge pet peeve of mine!), I had an “aha” moment.

In under 30 minutes!

You’ll need:

Large Empty Formula Container

Scrapbook Paper of your choice {I used a thick, cardstock-like paper}

Ribbon {optional}

Remove the label from the formula container, trying not to tear it.  Using the label as a template, cut your paper.  I had to cut 2 pieces to put around my formula container, as my 12×12 piece was just not long enough.  It’s okay though, you won’t even notice it on your finished piece.

Glue your new cover on using a glue stick.  I then used another small piece of scrap paper in a contrasting color and free-handed the word “Pens” using a black marker, and I added a trim along the top and bottom using ribbon the same color as my scrap paper.

After you have everything on it you would like, cover the whole “label” with ModPodge.  I ended up doing 3 coats, I believe.

The good thing about this project, is it’s yours! There is no right or wrong way to do it and you’re able to use whatever you have on hand to personalize your space.

Final Cost:  Nothing!

I think free looks quite nice, don’t you? :)
