Frugal Alternative to Shaving Cream

by GettingFreedom on February 10, 2011

Have you ever found yourself in the position where you really, really needed to shave your legs, or your husband was going to kick you out of the bed, but there was no shaving cream in sight?  C’mon, I know I’m not alone here. ;)

What if I were to tell you that you have something in your shower that you can use in the place of shaving cream and feel just as moisturized…

Just apply a small amount on your legs, spread around and shave as normal.  No razor burn, and you’re left with silky smooth legs.

It’s my legs best friend.  I can usually get it for free {or close} with coupons.  No extra bottles, no extra waste, and no worries!

I might have to try this once my stash of shave gel runs out. I don’t like shaving cream, prefer the gel, but I’ve never tried conditioner. I might even have some that I got free but then found out I didn’t like it – so I might be able to use it that way.

Daniel’s never kicked me out of bed. Yet. I tell ya, if shaving regularly when I was pregnant wasn’t hard enough, now that I have to zip in and out of the shower… why did the shaving fad have to get started, anyway? :P JUST KIDDING!

@Miriam, I’ve used up some conditioner that made my hair really greasy or just didn’t feel right on my legs before. It’s a lot easier for me to do that, than trash it!

And hey, I’ve often thought that if we all were hairless, and we never knew what each other looked like WITH hair, we wouldn’t miss it, and it’d solve a lot of problems! Like bad hair days, and shaving woes! Hahahaha….

I have super sensitive skin and break out when I use shaving cream or gel. Conditioner is actually the only thing I can use that doesn’t either give me razor burn or break out. AND I think it makes them softer than gel or shaving cream too!

I ALWAYS have so much more conditioner left over when the shampoo is gone. This is GREAT! Thanks. I’ll sure give it a try.

Looking forward to trying to match coupons to get it for free, too.
It’s a little harder out here where we don’t get as many coupons or deals. Retailers do not always accept online coupons, either.
Suggestions welcome.

I’ve also used moisturizer in a pinch. Back when I was in college and didn’t want to take a shower just to shave (since I never had time when I was rushing around in the mornings!) I’d get a bowl of hot water, and a bottle of moisturizer. It does take a little more work to get the lotion off, but nothing a nice strong run under the sink couldn’t fix. I like my conditioner too much to use it on my legs, but have lots of useless moisturizer around (and I’m sure a lot of gals are just the opposite!) :)

I have used Dove soap (or Kirkland knock-off) for years. With a good lather, there is no razor burn and no expensive shaving creams.

I have so done that! Many times actually! And if I forget (or run out of time) to shave while in the shower, using lotion is a great way to do it quickly at the sink or over the side of the tub! ;)
