Many parts of the country–mine included–are experiencing lots of snow, sleet and ice. My specific area is all sleet and ice. And it’s not cool. Couple that with high winds, and we’ve got a potential of losing our electricity. I refuse to think about that for too long.

After picking my daughter up from volleyball practice yesterday, I popped into our regular ol’ Walmart (not a supercenter) to get some little propane containers for our Buddy heater, and some Cheerios for the husband. My women’s group was giving me a lot of grief over not purchasing cereal for my cereal-loving husband. I figured I would redeem myself.
I passed by rack after rack of ice scrapers, deicers, and salt.
Have you seen how much deicers cost?! Whoa! And to think, many people probably purchased it, and they have all of the ingredients to make deicer at home for a fraction of the cost!
How to Make DeIcer
Mix 3 parts White Distilled Vinegar with One Part Water.
Simple as that.
Spray on Windshields, door locks, or even concrete surfaces.
Be sure to remove the melted ice slush off of the surface before it refreezes!
Stay warm and safe, friends!

After scoring a great deal on strawberries, I had to figure out how I would use them all up before they went bad. I dehydrated strawberries {a couple of dehydrator’s full!}, we ate some, and I finally made some Strawberry Lemonade Concentrate that’s been on my list of things to do for years now.

I have to say, it’s rather amazing to pull out some strawberry lemonade in the middle of winter and enjoy a glass! It felt a bit like summer–or was that the crazy 60° weather we’ve been having?
This Strawberry Lemonade Concentrate recipe is meant to be water bath canned, but you can freeze it if you wish.
Strawberry Lemonade Concentrate
Ingredients
- 6 cups strawberries
- 4 cups lemon juice {fresh squeezed is best}
- 4 cups sugar
Instructions
- Puree strawberries in a food processor or blender.
- Combine strawberry puree and lemon juice in a large pot.
- Add in sugar and stir together.
- Heat mixture to 190°, do not let it boil!
- Ladle hot strawberry lemonade mixture into sterilized canning jars, leaving ¼ inch headspace.
- Remove any air bubbles.
- Wipe the rims and add on the canning lids and rings.
- Process in a water bath for 15 minutes.
