14 Days to a Clean Home–Closets

by GettingFreedom on April 5, 2013

We’re quickly moving into Day 13 of 14 Days to a Clean Home.  It’s went fast!

Yesterday I focused on spring cleaning my living room and my bathrooms since I was playing catch up.  It wasn’t too time consuming, but I also still have a little bit of under-the-cabinet clutter to deal with.  I am thankful that today focuses on doing Hall/Linen Closets, since our coveralls hibernate in our hall closet over the summer months, instead of my laundry room/bathroom.  That’ll help me finish up my bathroom space!

Here’s today’s agenda::

  • Clean out closets and put away any coats that won’t be needed or donate ones that have been outgrown.
  •  Organize.

Yesterday I focused on cleaning my living room and my bathrooms, in an effort to catch up from not doing a thing on Monday.  I do still have some under the sink clutter to tackle, but for the most part, I think I have everything done.  Well, except for taking some things outside that I found squirreled away in my laundry room/bathroom.

When we added onto our house, we focused heavily on open-ness.  I hate feeling closed in, either by walls or by clutter.  To eliminate the clutter in our main living space, we cut out our bulky entertainment center and used our sofa table until we finally upgraded to a wall mounted flat screen.  We rarely purchase video games or movies, since we can rent them from either Netflix or Redbox for a fraction of the cost.  That doesn’t mean we do not own them, as evident by the red basket in the middle, it just means we’re very selective–therefore storing them is a cinch.  In addition to the game basket underneath the sofa table, I do have a small basket that is at the end of our couch that has a lid, and stores all of our movies.  When we run out of room, it’s time to audit our movies and decide if we still like them or not.

Just as with my bedrooms, I like to freshen up the space every once in a while.  I mostly do that by changing what is on top of my sofa table, which is a focal point in this room.  I changed out my snowmen (finally!) for some of my favorite spring-colored glass jars.  I’m not completely finished with it, but it works for now!

Natural Cleaners Used

Steam Mop

Streak-Free Glass Cleaner

Orange Oil Cleaner

The messiest of my bathroom spaces was definitely the one that also doubles as my laundry room.  The cabinet above my washer and dryer is the catch-all for everything under the sun.

Once again I’ve utilized baskets in my upper cabinets, as well as to organize my drawers to keep everything nice and tidy.

I finally put my cabinet doors back on after they’ve been off for about a year! Oops.

Everything still needs another coat of paint, but the $20 DIY Backsplash is still looking snazzy!

So, although I might not have crossed everything off of my list for all 4 bathrooms and the living room–I think I made good progress!

Naturally Deep Cleaning your Oven {14 Days to a Clean Home Series}

March 29, 2013

My oven was in bad shape.  I’m often called the messiest cook on Earth, plus I get distracted pretty easily.  That tends to be a deadly mess-ier combination. The top picture shows my oven before I started to clean it.  Yes, it’s dark–but that’s all the nasty gunk!  To be honest, I didn’t realize it was […]

14 Days to a Clean Home-Kitchen

March 27, 2013

The kitchen is the hub of our entire home.  I spend quite a bit of time in there, and since our space is rather open, it tends to be a focal point. Because of this, it tends to stay pretty organized and clean–at least on the surface. I obviously have some work to do behind […]
