Rusty Shower Caddy Re-do {Salvaged Sunday}

by GettingFreedom on February 11, 2012

I’m SO excited to have opened up Salvaged Sunday as a linky!  I hope y’all don’t leave me lonely.  I want to see some other projects! :)

This week I {finally} gave my rusty ol’ shower caddy a new life.  We purchased this metal shower caddy about 5 years ago for $20.  I remember fighting with my frugal nature in coughing up that much for a stinking shower caddy, but I caved.  It was metal afterall, and should last forever.  Right?

Notsomuch.

A few years later I noticed it started to appear rusty in spots.  I would clean it up and it would come right back.

Then I forgot about it since it’s in our laundry room shower {which used to be our only shower until Project MAD} and I’m never in there anymore.  But, over the last couple of weeks we’ve been doing some final details in there–and I was quickly reminded of how icky it was!

I couldn’t leave it be this time! I took it outside, wiped it off and took some steel wool and sanded off all of the rust I could.

And gave it a fresh new coat of my beloved oil rubbed bronze spray paint.

I’m not sure which one I’m getting more life out of–my spray paint or my shower caddy! ;)

Now it’s your turn!  What so-called trash have you given a new life?

Salvaged Sunday {Metal Mirror Re-Do}

by GettingFreedom on February 5, 2012

**Sorry for posting late!  Our family, including myself, came down with the sickies!  Don’t miss the BIG NEWS at the bottom!**

I absolutely fell in love with Oil Rubbed Bronze Spray Paint last year after redo-ing my old metal dresser. Remember it?

I don’t know why I spaced it at the time, but all along I’ve had the mirror that once belonged this dresser hanging up in my laundry room. The past few weeks we’ve frantically been finishing up last minute details of Project MAD so we can finalize our home loan and get a lower rate.

That was when it finally hit me that I never painted the ugly white mirror! In less than 30 minutes it went from this::

To this::

All the while I kicked myself for taking SO long on finishing such an easy project!

I challenge you to look around your home this week–find a project you’ve been putting off and tackle it! Not only will you proud you’ve finally accomplished it–but, next week I’m opening up Salvaged Sunday as a Linky!

You can come back here and share your projects with all of us!  Please don’t leave me all alone! :)

DIY Christmas Tree {Salvaged Sunday}

Refurbished Retro China Hutch {Salvaged Sunday}

October 15, 2011

Roughly 9 years ago Willie’s Aunt and Uncle gave us an old retro china hutch to use in our first home together which was lacking in kitchen cabinets.  It wasn’t the prettiest thing in the world, and was actually missing a leg, but it was functional.  Functional was our goal. Many years and 2 long [...]

October 8, 2011

Looking around my house, and through my “Oh, I have to make that!” list–I’ve realized that I have bona fide infatuation with pumpkins! I like to eat them and decorate with them. I’m not sure which one is worse, my snowman addiction or my pumpkin addiction! And come to think of it, sometimes I eat my [...]
