Almond Pear Scones {Sugar Free!}

Post image for Almond Pear Scones {Sugar Free!}

With my last Azure Standard order we got 20# of pears.  We love pears as much as the next person, but pears tend to go downhill pretty fast.  In an effort to use them quickly, I started looking for various recipes with pears.  In this quest I decided that I wanted to attempt a pear scone.

We’re still fairly new to eating scones, but I’m loving their ease and versatility.  My searches came up empty {atleast for out taste buds, there were so weird choices!} so I set out to create one.

Considering I made 3 batches in 4 days and all of them disappeared, I think it’s pretty safe to say that these were a success!

Almond Pear Scones

Almond Pear Scones are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a midday snack. Since they're sugar free you won't feel guilty!

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 stick butter, cut into small pieces; plus 2 Tbsp
  • 3-4 medium sized pears; peeled, cored, and diced
  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • optional Glaze
  • ½ tsp Almond Extract
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk

  1. Melt 2 Tbsp butter in a small skillet an add the pear pieces and cinnamon.
  2. Saute for about 3 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.
  4. Stir together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  5. Cut in the butter.
  6. Add in the cooled pear, sliced almonds, and milk.
  7. Place dough on baking sheet and shape into a flattened circle.
  8. Cut into 8 slices using a pizza cutter or knife.
  9. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes {or until they're golden brown}.
  10. While they are baking, mix up the glaze ingredients if you're using it.
  11. Drizzle baked scones with glaze.
  12. Serve and Enjoy!

The almond extract in the optional glaze isn't necessary, but it does add an extra element of flavor.

Now what am going to do since I’m out of pears?!
