Quick Homemade Pizza Crust

by GettingFreedom on April 28, 2009

Nothing beats homemade pizza. Especially our new favorite, Buffalo Chicken Pizza. One of the things that makes a great homemade pizza is homemade pizza crust.

I came across this recipe in the cookbook that came with my now dead breadmaker. I’ve easily converted the recipe over to work in my Kitchenaid. I have also been able to substitute whole wheat flour in for some of the white, with no changes other than added nutrition and better taste!

Quick Pizza Crust

1 cup plus 2 Tbs Warm Water
2 ½ tsp yeast
2 Tbs Olive Oil
3 1/2 cups flour (again you can use sub in some whole wheat)
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt

In your mixing bowl add the warm water (not hot!) and yeast. Let sit until bubbly. Add in the remaining ingredients. Mix on low until incorporated. Once incorporated mix on speed #2 for about 2 minutes. Your dough should spring back when touched. Sometimes the dough is still a bit sticky, so I have to add additional flour.

Once mixed up, let sit for about 2 minutes.

Place on greased pizza pans (or cookie sheets) spreading out with your fingers. Add your favorite toppings and bake at 400° for 18-20 minutes.

TIP: Our favorite crust is made with about ½ whole wheat flour, ½ all purpose with 2 Tablespoons Parmesan Cheese, 1 tsp of basil, and 1 tsp of Oregano. You can add the seasonings in when you add in the flour and other ingredients.

Yields (1) 16″ Crust or (2) 12″ crusts.

Total Cost: Under $1

I love how quick that is! Our recipe is excellent, but it takes about 2 hours with rising… so that kind of throws out the window a quick pizza night. I’ll be excited to try this one, especially with the cheese and seasonings!

that is a great one…I have started skipping the rising part since I’m always in a hurry and it still works great. Didn’t do your buffalo chicken, but it’s on my “to make” list. :)

Looks very easy! I love homemade pizza. I don’t make it as much as I used to though. It’s probably time to make it again!
