You should know by now that I love a good deal. Catching one can really make my day!

Now all I need to pick up ever year is the egg dye! I try to pick up a clearanced box (or 2), and we are set for the following year. Generally I pay no more than .50¢ a box. If I miss a clearance, the stash that I have accumualted is good enough!

It is also a good time to stock up on Easter baskets. You can pick these up fairly cheap, and they can last for years to come, just tuck them away in a storage box with the rest of your Easter goodies. Our kids re-use theirs every year, and will continue to do so until they start to fall apart.
Be sure to pick up some clearanced Easter chocolate while you’re at it–you deserve it for saving money!
If I have any extra egg decorating stickers, egg wraps or anything else, I just pop it all in a ziploc bag and store it with the rest of my stash. Nothing goes to waste!
Shopping after holiday clearance sales has saved me loads of cash. Same product, half the price. It works for me!

One really neat idea that my aunt gave me (and we do) was to go to a paint store and get two empty paint cans (generally if you get them from a paint store, they are already cleaned and you don’t have to deal with it, but mineral spirits does a great job if not!). We took the labels off, spray painted them in and out, then decorated each one with each kid’s hand prints and other cute spring designs. They will have them forever and we just used paint we already had. It was fun =)

Easter sales are nearly non-existent this year in our area. I was at Target the morning after Easter and there was less than half an aisle, quite picked over. Walgreens was the same way. Good thing I had the baskets and eggs to reuse for next year!

I am terrible about stocking up after the holidays! Usually I am so tired of looking at all the stuff I can’t bear to get more! And then I have no place to store it!

I guess you didn’t know that you can make your own Easter egg dye for just a few cents? Then there’s no reason to have special dishes because it’s totally safe, made only from food-quality ingredients. Here’s how you do it:
Put some water on to boil. Get out dishes the right size for eggs–I use 1-cup Pyrex bowls which hold 2 eggs at once. Put 1 Tbsp. white vinegar in each bowl. Add water until it looks deep enough to cover an egg. Add food coloring, about 5 drops. Stir.
Put an egg on a spoon and hold it with your fingertip on top. Gently lower it into the dye. If it’s not covered, add more water.
By the way, since I met someone this Easter who did not know this…you can eat dyed eggs! As long as you didn’t have them unrefrigerated for hours and hours, they’re still good!
